Pulling up a chair across from Penny Ann, it’s easy to see why her words resonate so deeply with readers worldwide. Her presence is a blend of gentle wisdom and infectious enthusiasm—a perfect reflection of the themes found in her international best-selling series, The Children of Change. As we sip our coffee, she begins sharing her incredible journey from hand-writing her first novel to becoming an indie author inspiring change.

Blessed Desert Press (BDP): Penny, it’s so wonderful to sit down with you! Let’s start at the beginning—how did The Children of Change series come to life?
Penny Ann: Thank you! It’s great to be here. The series began with Peddlers, which I first wrote by hand in 1987. I had always wanted to write a book, so I simply sat down and did it in three months. Later, I transcribed it onto a computer and restructured it, but after a few rejections and even a fraud experience, I buried it for over 30 years.
It wasn’t until 2019, after the passing of my husband, that I rediscovered the manuscript. While sorting through the house, I found the file and realized how much of the story was beginning to play out in real life. It was 2020 by then, and the timing felt urgent, as if this was the moment the book was meant to be shared.
BDP: That’s incredible—talk about timing! How did faith play a role in shaping the series?
Penny Ann: Faith was everything. I never planned these books or their stories. The words flowed through me, and the process felt divinely guided. I’d often sit down with one idea of where the story was going, only to have it take a completely different turn. Writing these books was an act of trust and dedication.
For example, The Dreamspellers came to me as an instantaneous download—completely unexpected, but I knew it was the next book in the series. All I had to do was remain open and let the story unfold.
BDP: That sense of divine flow is so inspiring. Can you tell us about The Children of Change series and its unique themes?
Penny Ann: Absolutely. The series is a futuristic dystopian story that explores the consequences of fear-based decisions, manipulation, and the need for spiritual awakening. Each book highlights a key stage of transformation.
Peddlers introduces the rebellion—societies waking up to lies and deception.
Havanna dives deeper into the spiritual revolution, with characters confronting the "matrix" and choosing truth over illusion.
The Dreamspellers moves the story forward another 20 years, showing the evolution of societies as they strive to create a world rooted in love, truth, and respect.
Throughout the series, the central message is one of hope: no matter how dire circumstances may seem, positive change is always possible—but it starts with us.
BDP: That’s such a powerful message. What do you hope readers take away from the series?
Penny Ann: Hope, for sure. I want readers to understand that we are all children of God, navigating the complexities of change. It’s about embracing love and truth over fear and manipulation. Real change requires us to look inward, to shift our paradigms and inner-standing, as I like to call it.
There’s so much fear and anger in the world today, but I believe we can overcome it by reconnecting with our divinity and the principles of unity and healing.
BDP: You’ve poured so much into these books. Which character has left the biggest impact on you?
Penny Ann: That’s a tough one! I think Ayla from Havanna would be my pick. She’s spiritually advanced, deeply centered, and unshakable. Conversations with her would be absolutely mind-blowing. Through her, I’ve learned that it’s not about what we do, but how we are being that truly matters.
BDP: Beautifully said. What’s next for you? Any exciting new projects on the horizon?
Penny Ann: Right now, I’m focused on promoting The Children of Change series, but I have so many ideas for new books brewing! While it’s too soon to share specifics, I can promise they’ll address issues that matter deeply in today’s world.
BDP: That’s exciting, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. For readers who want to explore your work, where can they find your books?
