What We’re Growing Here
Blessed Desert Press is a Christian bookstore and independent creative press devoted to sharing the light of Christ through arts and entertainment.
We believe the stories we read, the images we enjoy, and the things we surround ourselves with can do more than entertain us. They can remind us of God’s goodness, turn our attention toward Jesus, and encourage us to recognize the Holy Spirit’s leading.
That purpose is at the heart of everything we create—from children’s stories and young-reader adventures to journals, devotionals, artwork, patterns, and coloring pages. Each takes a different form, but all share the same hope: to bring reminders of God’s love, kindness, wisdom, and faithfulness into everyday life.
It is why Ember’s journey begins with a tiny spark—a gift to recognize, tend, and fan into flame. It is also what inspires Desert Fruit, where friendship and adventure give young readers opportunities to discover the fruit of a life growing in Christ.
Our roots reach back to Blessings in the Desert, a collection of reflections on God’s goodness, even in life’s difficult seasons. That same belief continues to shape Blessed Desert Press: beauty can grow in unexpected places, and God’s light can meet us right where we are.
As we grow, our prayer is that every publication and creative offering will encourage an honest, ongoing relationship with Jesus. Whether you are reading with a child, enjoying a piece of art, or spending a quiet moment with God, we hope you find something here that helps His truth take root in your heart.

Where It Took Root
Before Blessed Desert Press had a name, there was Blessings in the Desert—a place to write about God’s goodness, even in seasons that felt dry or difficult.
That name came from something I had experienced myself. After growing up among the green hills and waterways of the Ozarks, I struggled to see beauty in the Sonoran Desert. Over time, the Lord opened my eyes to the life all around me. He was teaching me to recognize His blessings here, and to trust that He was present in the harder deserts of life, too.
Blessed Desert Press first took shape as a home for writing and creative services. Then, as God led me toward children’s books, the vision grew. The Press became a place to bring together storytelling, visual art, and faith—to create books and other beautiful things that point readers toward the light of Christ.
The seed was planted in those early reflections. What you see here is the story still growing.
Hi, I’m Heather Jefferson, the founder of Blessed Desert Press. I write my Saguaro Springs books as H.L. Jefferson, but this little bookstore brings together more of the creative work God has placed on my heart.
I’ve loved making things for as long as I can remember. My path has taken me through visual art, photography, interior design, and professional writing. For about fourteen years, I told people’s stories through my camera at Quilted Hearts Photography. I had no idea how God would bring those experiences together.
In 2021, the Lord placed a new purpose on my heart: to write children’s books for Him. I felt frightened and unprepared. I didn’t know how to do it, but I began talking with God about it and taking the next step He showed me. I completed my degree in Professional Writing for New Media and learned how words and illustrations could work together to plant seeds of faith in young hearts.
That journey is part of why Blessed Desert Press exists. If your visit to our little bookstore does anything, I hope it encourages you to talk with God and give Him room to do something wonderful in your life. If He has placed a purpose on your heart, you don’t have to know how every piece will come together before you begin. No matter where you come from or what your background has been, you can trust Him to lead you and provide what you need along the way.
I’m still following Him one step at a time, grateful for the stories, art, and unexpected blessings growing here in the Sonoran Desert. I give God the glory for it all.

Made New, Led Forward
For much of my life, fear, rejection, and the need for others’ approval shaped how I saw myself. But praise God—Jesus began breaking those chains and replacing the lies I believed with His truth.
He showed me that I don’t have to earn His love. In Him, I am already fully known and deeply loved.
I’m still learning to listen, surrender, and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading. That ongoing conversation with God is the heartbeat behind what I create.
My prayer is that something you find here will encourage you to begin your own conversation with Him. Bring Him your questions, your fears, and the hopes you hardly dare to speak.
Give Him room to lead—and to do something beautiful in your life.
